A new beginning...

Today was my last day at work. Today was just like any other day but unlike the other days, one of my coworkers treated me to some yummy sushi. I have had 3 separate days of sushi lunches for my going away (boy, am I lucky!). Headed back to the office after work, did my thang (thang = no much). Then towards the end of the day I said my good byes and whatnot to various coworkers and finally to my manager. I was surprised that my manager was actually a little saddened from my departure. I didn't want to make a big fuss about it but it felt like when I meet new people on a vacation, befriend them and leave 2 weeks later. I wouldn't say I was sad, but it felt like I was closing a chapter in my book. What are the chances that I will ever see my coworkers again? Will it ever be the same? (no, because I am not an employee no more!).

All good. Now I am on the hunt for the next money-maker. But in the mean time I will have many lunches with friends (they better be paying since I am unemployed, HAHAH jp), take many photographs, exercise, and just live a little.

Me-1, 9-5- 0, bitch!

School Bans Talking During Lunch (ROC? no, USA)

Class, from now on there will be no talking at lunch.

A Roman Catholic elementary school adopted new lunchroom rules this week requiring students to remain silent while eating. The move comes after three recent choking incidents in the cafeteria.

No one was hurt, but the principal of St. Rose of Lima School explained in a letter to parents that if the lunchroom is loud, staff members cannot hear a child choking.

Christine Lamoureux, whose 12-year-old is a sixth-grader at the school, said she respects the safety issue but thinks the rule is a bad idea.

"They are silent all day," she said. "They have to get some type of release." She suggested quiet conversation be allowed during lunch.

Another mother, Thina Paone, does not mind the silent lunches, noting that the cafeteria "can be very crazy" at the suburban school south of Providence.

Principal Jeannine Fuller did not immediately return a call seeking comment, but a spokesman for the Diocese of Providence described the silence rule as a temporary safety measure.

Spokesman Michael Guilfoyle said the school does not expect complete silence but enough quiet to keep students safe.

Lori Healey, a teacher at the school who also has a son in third grade, said "silent lunch" means students can whisper.

"They know it's not for punishment," she said. "It's for safety, and they'll be the first ones to tell you."

Stacey Wildenhain, a teacher's assistant at St. Rose, said her 7-year- old son does not mind the policy. He told her: "The sooner we eat, the sooner we can get out to play," she said.

Amanda Karhuse, of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, said that students should not run wild during lunch, but that they also should not have to remain silent.

"It seems kind of ridiculous in our opinion," she said. "Kids need that social time, and they just need time to be kids at that age."

The principal's letter also spelled out other new lunch rules, including requiring students to stay in their seats and limiting them to one trip to the trash can. Any child who breaks the rules will serve detention the next day.

Paone's 6-year-old son, Joey, said he accepts the changes, but some of his classmates were having trouble obeying the rules.

Kara Casali, who also has a 6-year-old son at the school, said the rules against talking will be tough to enforce.

"I can't imagine having a silent lunch," she said.

Only a Few More Days

Only and few more days of work and I will be gone forever! (overly dramatic, yes). My contract is almost up and I won't have the privilege to get paid for doing almost nothing anymore. The "real world" is finally here. This shall be interesting. If I had money to blow I would go on a vacation for a few months and come back to the hustle and bustle of work life.

My Birthday is right around the corner... another year. It's pretty funny how every birthday after your 21st is pretty meaningless. I guess the quarter century mark is of some significance as well as every new decade that one survives but what the hell do Birthdays really represent? The day I was born. WHOOPIE! you guys should really care because I was born on this day! Care! I guess any excuse for friends to get together and get ridiculously drunk, offensive, belligerent is a good thing. I suppose Birthdays are someone's "get out of jail free" card for 24 hours and then it's back to reality. Not just normal reality, but reality +1 extra year of age (maybe that's why everyone gets so trashed on their birthdays?)

Party-on Folks. Cheers to ME!

8 Glasses a Day

I am sure all of you have heard that you should drink 8 glasses of water a day. I have been hearing this since I was a kid but never really abibed by it. I recently attempted to meet the minimum 8 glasses/day requirement but when I read this story I was shocked.
The woman in the article entered a radio contest in an attempt win her kids a Wii. The winner of the contest had to drink as much water as possible without going to the restroom. Unbenounce to her as well as the radio show, drinking too much water in a short amount of time causes water intoxication. Gee... who would have thought? Alcohol intoxication, surely that makes perfect sense (since alcohol is toxic), but water?

This story brought me back to my good old days when there was no adult supervision. My brother and I were bored during a Saturday afternoon. Our parents were out with our sister and after watching the reruns of whatever cartoons that we were fans of we decided to do something. With nothing better to do so we decided to have a drinking contest! We went through our options of what to drink. We had milk, water, and OJ but there was an abudance of OJ so we decided to go with that (we weren't big fans of water and the only time we would drink it was when our mother forced us to). The rules were simple, the ultimate winner would be the person who could finish the most before giving up. Peeing was absolutely OK. After we finished the first carton (and taking a few restroom breaks) we worked on our 2nd carton. We were doing great, it seemed like it was way too easy and we would probably we more OJ then we had. After we finished our 2nd carton we wanted to go to the restroon, but there was a problem! We tried to pee but couldn't (the fluid didn't filter to the bladder yet). In all, we had consumed 2 cartons of OJ (1 carton each, in about 30 minutes). I was on the floor in a fetal position from the pain the damned OJ caused. But after a while we were able to relive ourselves and both of us walked away in a tie. Boy was this a bad idea (in hindsight of course). But we did learn a very valuable lesson from all of this and that was to never waste Minutemaid orange juice (our mother bitched at us for consuming it for fun).

Just saw "Alpha Dog"

Jenn hooked it up with some sneak preview hook ups for the upcoming release "Alpha Dog" tonight. I wasn't expecting much but I was pretty sure I would get my monies worth (free!). Half of the people in the audience were girls waiting to see JT on the silver screen. That did not help me change my expectations in the least. But when the movie was over (about 2 hours long) I was surprised that "Alpha Dog" was actually a pretty good film. This movie is based on a true story and reminded me a lot like "Better Luck Tomorrow". MINUS the C-class Asian actors of course.

If you want to catch a film that keeps you entertained throughout the 2 hours I would recommend you catch the "Alpha Dog".

4/5 zing!

Best Sushi EVAR!

Over the weekend I went down to a place my friend had recommended. The place is called Sushi Koyo and is tucked into a plaza pretty much next to nowhere. My friends and I arrived at 7pm on a Saturday night and were expecting it to be packed. But after entering we discovered that no one was there. That was fine with me (I hate waiting anyways). After having a discussion as to what we were going to eat, I suggested that we roll with the "trust me" menu. They agreed and the master sushi chef, Hiro began to make the best sushi my friends and I had ever had. After about 6 different kinds of sushi more customers started to come in. At about 8 pm the restaurant had a fair amount of people. Hiro was throwing back beers with us as he was preparing his food. He probably had 4 beers from when we were there. This guy is hilarious. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves the raw ish. They do not serve rolls (besides california rolls) at dinner time for those less adventurous. Dinner and drinks came out to be about $55 a person. Even at that price it was definitely worth it!

5k... Check!

Went to the OC Marathon yesterday to do some running (only the 5k of course). I had to wake up at 6am to head down to Irvine and run 3 miles. When I got up I thought to myself that this was going to be a very bad idea. After arriving and seeing all the people get into it I was excited to run in my first 5k "race". I jogged a mile and pretty much walked the rest. My final time was 35 min and some change. That makes it about 12 minutes a mile! Damn I am out of shape.

My next goal is to do the 1/2 marathon. I must start training now.

Happy New Years! 2k7

I hope everyone had a badass NYE. I had a good time at the Visionshock Gala at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion. I didn't even get plastered, which is sorta depressing. Since it is a new year and it is tradition to make a resolution, I have come up with a new spin on this.

I am going to try to break as many resolutions as possible as my resolution.
